The initiative This solidarity initiative, which was started in 2002, was conceived and implemented by the Teens for Unity Movement in cooperation with AMU, and wishes to permit the education of boys and girls who would otherwise not have this privilege. Our objective consists in supporting them with scholarships all the way through Middle School, High School or professional formation so that they may achieve a degree of autonomy.  top |

"Teens for Unity" Movement The Teens for Unity Movement originates in the spirituality of unity that animates the Focolare Movement. The Association was set up in 1999; it is a non profit organisation with the objective of working for the creation of a united world. So as to achieve this, it promotes, at all levels and in all the fields of the human experience, a culture of peace and solidarity between people and populations, paying particular attention to the world of the young. Within the framework of the complete development of the human being, the association encourages all initiatives that favour unity, overcoming existing divisions in families, between generations, in schools, in society's various environments and also between people from different races, cultures, social classes, trends and persuasions. It concentrates above all on infants and on children, those who will build tomorrow's world. So as to achieve its objectives and create a world wide public opinion sensitive to a united world, the association promotes a number of activities and initiatives. Among these there are also initiatives that hope to alleviate all form of physical or spiritual unease: loneliness, alienation, drug addiction, poverty, illiteracy and disease etc, also through fund raising activities, helping the needy and supporting those in difficult situations (countries at war, affected by natural calamities etc.); initiatives that hope to create a network of solidarity and friendship uniting the young in poor developing countries with the young in economically advanced countries, through meetings, conventions and correspondence such as School-mates. The association is financed through donations from members, the adults and the young, and through funds freely provided by individuals, institutions, and by national and international private and public bodies. THE AMU The Association AZIONE PER UN MONDO UNITO (AMU) (Action for a United World) created in 1986, is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that operates in the field of international cooperation, inspired to the spirituality of unity that animates the Focolare Movement. The Association is recognised by the Italian Foreign Ministry and is also on the list of NGOs recognised by the European Union. It is a member of the Italian National Association of NGOs and of the CIPSI (Coordination of people's Initiatives for International Solidarity). AMU's activity concerning cooperation for development is directed towards solidarity for the poorer and less fortunate populations. While respecting the social, cultural and economic local context, the Association tries to promote, within a spirit of reciprocal understanding, the active participation of those involved in the projects so that they themselves may play a leading role in their own development. During these years AMU has implemented 17 long-term developmental projects, of these 7 co-financed with the Italian Foreign Ministry and 10 using our own funds in: Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Guatemala, Mexico, the Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Uganda, the Philippines and Croatia. The sectors interested by the interventions range from health to agriculture and from education to professional formation. AMU has supported over 240 micro-projects that are well defined and suited to the levels and the needs of small communities in many countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. AMU co-operates with "New Families", the Focolare Movement department involved in all that concerns families, for a long distance support program with 80 projects activated in 45 countries in 4 Continents, through which realistic development opportunities are provided for over 12.000 minors living in conditions of poverty, malnutrition, educational and medical deprivation. AMU co-operates with the Teens for Unity Movement in spreading the culture of giving and in solidarity micro-projects for supporting children and providing them with adequate nourishment, health care and prevention and also educational opportunities. So as to keep in touch with our supporters we publish a three-monthly bulletin called "AMU Notizie", that is currently read by 4.500 people. Marino (Roma - Italy), October 2002 top |
